Another prickly chapter was added to the Diana Ross & the Supremes saga in 1983, when Motown celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary with an all-star reunion TV special. Of course, the business of show is about perception, not reality, so most what happened the night of taping was never seen by TV viewers though it was written at length by Mary Wilson and others. It was the first time in thirteen years that Wilson would share a stage with Ross and Birdsong. Mary and Cindy had decided to stand up to Diana during the reunion, but she had her own plans for taking the center stage. While Britisher Adam Ant was singing his version of the Supremes' first number one 'Where Did Our Love Go', Diana slinked out onto the stage, doing a bump and grind, wowing the audience. The surprised Adam Ant was briefly caught off guard, but moved towards the superstar and danced along with her until she slinked off. Comments from the wing and audience included, " How could she just jump up there while someone else was performing?" and "I can't believe Diane would do that!" and "The Supremes were always so classy, why would she act like that?".
When DIANE did that to Adam Ant, all she was doing was showing her Detroit project whore roots! She was doing the old "Booty Green" dance........ Anyone in the audience or backstage from Detroit knows all about it. LOL!

I think Ross' addiction issues can be traced back to 1983. I read she was clutching a bottle for her 'nerves' that night. That dance was a disgusting display and indicated she was already out of control. As the night progressed, as we already know, things got worse. She looks drunk in the picture where she is being escorted out of the building, and Berry looks mad at as hell.

Ms. Wells was telling a friend that Diana Ross was high that night. Her account was printed in the Michigan Chronicle Newspaper. All of the Gordys were furious with Ross that night. Not only had she recently stabbed Berry Gordy in the back by leaving Motown after he up rooted the whole company and moved to LA to make her a movie star, the bitch had the nerve to show up to Motown 25 high and picked a fight with Mary Wilson of all people! Berry was mad as Hell and if her kids had not been with her, he would have really let her have it before shoving them all into a car and sending them home!

Unfortunately the Kennedy Center's reduction of her achievements, inadvertent as it probably was, is the norm when it comes to Diana Ross!
She's usually undervalued. She's never won a Grammy award, for instance, which seems unfathomable.
The recent BET award aside, she's never been given any kind of mainstream Lifetime Achievement award, and in fact doesn't receive many awards at all.
Some have speculated that the reason is that her reputation as a diva has obliterated her contributions to our culture. Maybe that was true back in the 1970s and 1980s when she was at the peak of her sensational and unpredictable behavior, but not today. Today, the reason for the devaluation of her achievements is likely that she is not perceived by mainstream critics and opinion - makers as an artist who ever cared much about her music. She's viewed as glitzy and superficial. Moreover, her critics think of her as a creation of Motown - even Smokey Robinson suggested that- a notion that made her bristle in the past. This is unfair, especially considering not only how hard she worked to become who she is but for how long and in how many different musical milieus - from HDH to Rodgers and Hart o Cole to Jules Styne and beyond.

Ross has since received a Grammy Award and the Presidential Freedom Award. It is widely accepted that if not for Oprah Winfrey's vigorous campaigns on Ross' behalf, Ross would never have received the aforementioned.

Whitney Houston: The Most Awarded Female Vocalist of All TimeWhitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012) was an American recording artist, actress, producer, and model. In 2009, the Guinness World Records cited her as the most awarded female act of all time.[1] Houston was one of the world’s best-selling music artists, having sold over 200 million records worldwide.[2] She released six studio albums, one holiday album and three movie soundtrack albums, all of which have diamond, multi-platinum, platinum or gold certification. Houston’s crossover appeal on the popular music charts, as well as her prominence on MTV, starting with her video for “How Will I Know“,[3] influenced several African American female artists to follow in her footsteps.Houston is the only artist to chart seven consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits.[6] She is the second artist behind Elton John and the only female artist to have two number-one Billboard 200 Album awards (formerly “Top Pop Album”) on the Billboard magazine year-end charts.[7] Houston’s 1985 debut album Whitney Houston became the best-selling debut album by a female act at the time of its release.

The fact that Ross has received a minimal amount of recognition in her career is the music industry sending out a message to her. Ross is not going to get awarded for her vocals from her peers, most of whom question how she went a far as she did on 'relatively little'. Ross vocals at Motown 25 were the ultimate abomination, not this here forum!

That's the whole truth and nuthin but the truth. Being an asshole to just about everyone you meet can have a severe, negative effect on a person's career no matter how great they think they are. Motown hid this part of Diana's persona from the public as much as they could. Left on her own, she let it all hang out and look where it's gotten her.

This is from Diana Ross' show the other night at the Venetian in Las Vegas. Can you get anymore low energy than this? Also, check out her voice or what's left of it:

she wears all these ruffles to hide her obesity. what is with the platform shoes? i thought she didn't want to be known as a disco throwback. she yells the lyrics now and hands the mic to the audience when she knows she can't hit a note. ain't nobody stupid.
