It's not just Diana Ross
Radio is not friendly to the black diva over 40. Once you turn 50, 60? Forget it. The one exception might be Aretha, but when was the last time Dionne charted? Gladys? Patti? And before their deaths, Donna and Natalie?

Her image is a very false one. Everyone could see that. The main thing that hurt her record sales most is that she was not producing good music after she left Mr. Gordy and Motown. I can't even remember much of music after 1981's "Endless Love" and that was on the radio all time it seemed.

Diana Ross featured the EDIAND album in Double Platinum, which was in the Nielsen top 20, and promoted it in Oprah. To date that album has sold 89,000 copies, and Brandy sold 16 million of her album. She experienced no sales increase from all that promotion. I was shocked when she performed her singles from Take Me Higher in front of the Superbowl audience of 120 million and still couldn't sell more than 100, 000 copies of her album. Any other artist would have at least have a gold album. When I Love You was released there was an article stating that appearances on the Today show , Regis and Kathy Lee,, and the David Letterman show, and timing the album for the Dreamgirls premiere couldn't help her sell more than 33,000 records in opening week. They said it was downright scary. The public just doesn't want to buy her records anymore for reasons they know why. I notice there isn't much middle ground with Diana Ross. Either you have every record she ever made or you despise her.
So much talent has reached out to help Diana Ross through the years - Tyler Perry, Clive Davis, and Luther Vandross to name a few and she turns them down flat.

I did not realize Diana Ross' record sales were so low when you consider others were selling 5- 30 million CD's of one recording. It's like Ross had become a "Cult Artist" LOL

Why do some get arrested.go to rehab and even worse but sell millions but not DR Or you mean like Robert Downey Jr.? He had all kinds of problems but ended a bigger money making star than ever. The difference is he had a likeability factor with the public. You did not hear stories of him mistreating people everywhere. She has no likeability factor; she brought it on herself. She treated Mary and Flo as if they didn't exist. Being an egoist, she will never admit to her character flaws. I used to wonder how stable she really is. That whole Ms Ross BS is ridiculous.

Best of luck with the new forum. Please feel free to take all of my Supreme/Diana threads. That is, if you like turmoil.

To set the record straight: I do not forbid posts on Diana Ross or the Supremes. They simply seem to quickly fall apart and I have to delete things.

Wishing you good luck with this new forum. Sadly it looks like it has run out of steam already.
Shame it's only Diana Ross though because if it was Supremes and Mary Wilson too that might take a lot of the boring stuff from the other forums. Any chance you could extend it?
Have asked for a validation code email from you but failed to arrive.

She's sold 100 million CDs! Mary Wilson has sold fewer than 7000 CDs and albums.
Diana is an icon! Mary is unknown!!

This is no way to start a forum with trash talk. Let's be positive. I think Love Child would have been a big hit with Cindy Birdsong singing lead. At least top 30. It's fun to speculate. What do you think?

Keep on Dancin is the jam That should have been the first single from Workin Overtime that album would have sold in the millions.

Cindy Birdsong should have been given more leads. If she sang lead on Someday We'll Be Together - 10 million automatically.
