i just don't see it happening. Janis Joplin and Cass Elliott were both far more talented, recognized, and (needless to say), successful but nearly 50 years after their deaths many scripted films have fallen by the wayside. In the meantime I guess there's this:

Janis Joplin and Cass Elliott were both far more talented, recognized, and (needless to say), successful but nearly 50 years after their deaths many scripted films have fallen by the wayside. In the meantime I guess there's this: Miss PeacenHarmony, the 1980 film The Rose was as loosely based on the life of Janis Joplin as Lady Sings The Blues was on the life of Billie Holiday. Originally the film had been called THE PEARL, which was Janis Joplin’s nick name. But her family refused permission to use that name. Janis Joplin's family refused to allow rights to her story, and still continues to do so. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards, the movie and the soundtrack were two of the biggest hits of 1979/80. Please stop posting false information in the future. Between Vgalindo, Bluebrock, Roberta75, and Joebeterob there is enough fake news floating around. Thanks in advance. How The Rose Came To BeThe Rose

Who said that Motown/Universal and Sony/ATV Songs is going to refuse to license the music, the songs to them. We don't know. There really is no reason that they would not license the music to the film's producers. Who said they weren't. If you RE-READ my original response, Marv2/HectorI stated the producers would have to have major financial backing to afford the music licensing fees that Sony/ATV Songs would surely charge. R.I.F. Reading Is Fundamental "drops mic" Marv, once again you have gone off the rails. Put down the crack pipe and focus on your reading comprehension. I used the word IF. Therein lies the difference. I never wrote they would refuse to license the songs I wrote IF they refused...BIG DIFFERENCE.
Now you can go and have several seats in the corner and obsess over Mary Wilson.

I think it should follow Florence's life from the time she formed The Primettes and then show how 3 young girls from the inner city handled the sudden rush of fame - with the focus of course being on Florence and how it eventually took its toll. I think it should end when she is fired from the group and in no way dramatize her death. That would be tasteless.

People's lives are lives. They are not 'high drama' for us to make a spectacle out of.
I love Florence, and the Supremes, and it is for that reason I hope no movie about her ever sees the light of day. Let the woman rest in peace, for goodness sake. She was a human who faced problems that MANY people unfortunately face, but because she was a Supreme those problems have been magnified 1,000 fold and her life and legacy has become a circus show over the last few decades.
Let's get some highly-credible researchers to produce a well-designed documentary about her. The last thing poor Florence or the other Supremes need is for greedy people to dig up imaginary dirt on them any further. A good approach would mirror the likes of the book "Forever Faithful," which if I recall stuck primarily to the historical details, particularly of her legal suits following her dismissal from the Supremes.
Flo has been martyred and she has been vilified. She has become this mythical creature whose post-death legacy has been distorted in such ways as to turn fans into barbarians when discussing her. The truth is she was as human as you and I, and any "dramatizing" of her life would be disrespectful, distasteful, and littered with lies and half-truths.
Again, just let the woman rest in peace...

The problem is people don't want the truth. They want the parts of the story that make their favorite Supreme look good instead of embracing the fact that these three YOUNG women were human like Antceleb12 pointed out. Some want the drama and gossip because they believe it's going to make Diana Ross look bad. Others don't want the story told because they believe it's going to make Diana Ross look bad. If everybody stepped back and let the principle players tell it from their perspectives that would be great, in documentary form. I think if the Supremes story- or even just Flo herself- were presented in this manner people might walk away realizing that no one in the story was perfect and no one in the story was Satan incarnate. In movie form it's going to be sensationalized. Every bad thing will be played up to make it more than it actually was because that's the way you sale a movie. And most movies have to have a hero and a villain. Florence has to be the hero in her own story. Diana Ross is going to be that obvious villain. And the cycle of the feuding fan groups will continue until the last of them die off.

The forum idiot is back.
How many arguments do you have?
1. You want the movie made to piss off the fans who think Diana Ross is the only important Supreme. 2. Those who want the movie made for high drama are sick clowns
and on and on
Why don't you go somewhere and shut the fuck up, you stupid asshole!

I hope people ignore that particular post. It was written in a positive thread to get a reaction, as quite a few of that person with the ironic screen name's posts are. But you're right, the minds are made up, the lines are drawn. It's ridiculous. I watched a Diana Ross video on Youtube the other day- I think it was her being honored by the Kennedy Center- and someone left a beautiful message about Diana's talent and impact on the world of entertainment, and then ended it with something to the effect of "now take that Mary!". As if Diana's success is something Mary sits around and broods about, despite the fact that Mary herself is beloved, admired and even honored for what she herself as accomplished. The scenarios some of these folks conjure up in their minds is insane and sadly a Florence Ballard movie- be it low budget or big budget, music or no music- is only going to serve to feed the insanity on both sides. A never ending cycle, like you said.

There are some people who have multiple (in some cases 4-6) identities that they use to fuel discontent here. You are correct that "ignore" is the best option.
