I am sick of all the ass kissing at Soulful Detroit to the moderator. Every other post is
MY DEAR RALPH
OUR DEAR MODERATOR
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK etc etc etc
There are no active Motown forums anymore except SD and no active Diana Ross forums except this one. I talked to my nieces, nephews, and young uns I mentor. What I wanted to know is where their generation stands with Diana Ross, Forums, and how do they communicate in social media.
1. Forums are dead. Not one of them is going to tolerate the set up of Ralph T as big daddy who disciplines the house and keeps it clean, while brain dead Roberta writes in every post , "My dear Ralph T" No way, no how.
2. I thought everyone knew about Motown but today's generation is not that familiar with Diane songs. They know Aretha, Gladys, Patti Labelle, Dionne, Whitney, Marvin, Stevie and so on and their music and legacy. What they know about Diane is she is a superficial woman who slept her way to the top and snaps her fingers at people.
3. If she was so big why did she play New York City Center? Legends play Madison Square Garden, Radio Music City Hall, and Carnegie Hall. It was pointed out to me that if she played Billie Holiday then she should have played Carnegie Hall. They know all about Billie Holiday and her music and Billie Holiday's Carnegie Hall Concert. The next event at NYCC is the Alvin Ailey Senior Project!
4. They looked at the SD forum and said "What if I didn't like the show?" "What if I didn't like her outfits?" "What if I didn't like her voice?" I can't post that. If I did then I am a trouble maker etc and this Ralph will have to discipline me. They pointed out in a political forum you present issues, usually that conflict in a public assemblage. SD is not a forum.
Just my humble opinion.

Moderating a forum is no big deal, not exactly rocket science. Thanxal sounds so stupid talking about "Our Moderator" DJ Moch " Thanks for all the hard work"
Moderating a forum is not hard work.

Bluebrock and Roberta75's love fests get on my fucking nerves! More so now that I know Roberta75 is a man and Bluebrock is a laborer.

I never heard of SD but after stumbling onto this forum I went there. Ralph T left a thread up so that the "members can reflect on their behavior". LMFAO. No one under 50 is going for that! My father really liked big band music and middle of the road singers like Doris Day. We got him a computer in 1995 and he was a member of a lot of forums that dealt with that type of music. SD reminds me of that. It is very specialized and not that many people are into Motown to discuss a reel to reel find or reissue that will sell 5,000 copies.
My father is dead. There are some Big Band forums left, but not like when he was alive and he would post for hours every day. Most of the people who were alive for that period are dead are not capable of participating in active forum. My generation is outspoken. We are all stars in our on way with Facebook pages, tweets, instagram, snapchat, and our own YouTube channels. The whole ideal of someone telling us to reflect on our behavior in our leisure time on social media is ridiculous. Yes - no way no how.
One final thought. I did a search on Ollie9 and RanRan79. They are the only two members who use the word DUH. So I am certain they are the same person. PeacenHarmony complains the exact same way about the moderator allow members to pollute the forum as GBA and Supremeboy. None of them wants to hear a negative word about Diana Ross.

Oh I am sick of that bullshit.
Ralph Thank you for all of your hardwork
It must be difficult dealing with so much negativity
Our dear moderator
So much phony ass kissing.
You notice it was about 5-6 people posting about the show. Diane has burned a lot of bridges and is being boycotted. You can pretend this is not happening and live in a fantasy world where every book and article about Diane is fake or you can deal with reality.

That Big Daddy disciplining the forum and keeping the house clean is tired in 2017. Played out.
There were exactly 12 active posters posting about Ross' NYC Sold Out engagement in her favor. 12 posters. There is no other active forum besides this. 12 Old Queens posting about Ross taking over NYC. This is not trending on social media. I think of the 12 only one went to the show.
People think it is given that you can get booked on TV when you are touring or have a project to promote. Ross has reached the point in her career when she cannot get a tv interview. Ross is available, trust me. www.delafont.com/music_acts/diana-ross.htm

Forums are not part of today' culture except for online studying and maybe academic or technical support groups. The stars in Diana's age group that are still stars have changed with the times and are a contemporary presence. Streisand is a perfect example of an older star who uses social media.
What I don't like about Diana Ross is how she includes her family in everything. In most of her interviews she always brings her kids on stage. Who does that but her? At every concert they come onstage at the end. At this point, Diana touring is just her job. She has been on tour for 11 years. They should be living their own lives and not following her around. This is very dysfunctional to me. I could understand if she did a major tour every few years or more for about three months, with a new show. But Diana has been touring with the same show for 11 years so I don't understand the need for them to be in the audience all the time.

This thread is intriguing on so many levels. Everything you say about the ass kissing that goes on over there is true but it must be creating a huge dilemma for marv2. One the one hand he's found a haven here where can freely malign Diana Ross.and his Hector persona has reached Godly status. On the other hand he is one of Ralph's very good friends and is respected and favored by Ralph T.

Jobeterob can make snide underhanded comments about Miss Wilson' and not addressed while kissing the moderator's ass. Hum. He is probably best ignored.

Roberta75 is rapidly approaching that status. I have moderated forums, I will not tell you which ones I have. It is not hard work, trust me my dear.
The comments sound cult like. The worst offenders are
Thanxal: Roberta75 DJ Moch
What I wouldn't tolerate is Roberta75 making religious posts I would warn her once and ban her for life the second time. That has no place in A Motown forum and Roberta75 knows better.
I could care less about Ralph.

Fuck Ralph. Who cares about who he favors and why does anyone care about being favored by him. So they can post in a forum? There is a lot of ass kissing and it is disgusting. Real disgusting. Who has time for that bullshit.
That goddamn Roberta75 has each post 'MY DEAR RALPH' - give me a break!
Forums were big in the in the first 10 or 15 years of the internet for two reasons:
1. File Sharing 2. Windows and MAC formats
Forums were people shared so forums were everywhere. People no longer file share by downloads anymore. With all the streaming services you have access to everything ever recorded.
Groups were very big 10 to 15 years ago. Yahoo Groups probably had more Diana Ross than any artist. Groups are just obsolete, like MYSPACE.
The biggest reason why groups and forums are dead is the shift in the culture to the Android format. People uses their cellphones for everything and rarely sit down to their computer for social media. Forums and groups need Windows and MAC.
Online school is here to stay. You have to be in a community in a structured format when taking classes on line. You do not want the format and environment of school on your free time.

I moderated a forum for out of print vocalists, jazz - middle of the road - singers of American songbook. There were a lot of very rare recordings shared in that forum. There was no problem with 'keeping the house clean', 'reflecting on behavior', deleting threads or banning members. The forum died out in 2009. My capacity was administrative. It wasn't hard work at all. We all amassed a great library of rare and not so rare finds.
I didn't grow up with that type of music but I was a collector, but for those who were from that era they were aging out and forums were over. Around 2009 it was just a few of us in that forum, and I pulled the plug because it was past its prime. It was very big in its time. The only problems I remember with music forums and fighting were the ones with Ross. Ross is always a controversial topic because of all of the evil that she has done in her career.
I see Soulful Detroit with a few active posters despite a large membership.
