One of the high points of my interview of Jean Terrell was discussing the Right On album. The concept for the album was Romeo and Juliet. That album was very well planned and thought out, and boy didn't it show when you listened to it. Well crafted songs superbly performed by Jean. Possibly my favourite Supremes album of any period.

There is no "making of the Right On lp." As was customary at Motown when they were trying to get a hit on an artist, Gordy opened up the new Supremes to all producers at Motown to compete and get a hit on the new group. When Up The Ladder was chosen and Frank Wilson clearly the victor, it meant he would get the new couple releases on the new group. The Right On album is merely a compilation of the best of all the material produced on the Supremes in late 69 and early 70. In fact, a couple of tunes were recorded before Jean was officially in the group. Jean Terrell signed on as a soloist as did all Motown recording artists. That way the company could use her as they saw fit. When Frank Wilson took over the group, the next two lps were more of a concept, but Right On was merely 12 good songs thrown together with a creative title and issued as the group's first lp with Jean.
Right now I have thoughts about your credibility and you persistence in staying anonymous and I will leave it at that.

Well, that's a distillation of the non-existent book, and thanks - I presumed as much

Many other Supremes albums just seemed to be thrown together, and maybe this one was as well but it sure as hell did not come across that way. Jean was recording solo for Motown as early as mid 1969, but is not sure which of those songs ended up on "right on". This is the one 70's Supremes album that has more than enough outtakes for an expanded edition. I loved the artwork too. Motown seemed to really believe in this album , and with good reason.
Jean herself could not recall any specific recording dates. She recorded literally dozens of songs , many of which are frustratingly gathering dust in the vaults

Hi Bluerock: when you interview Jean if you haven't already, it would be cool to ask her If she could elaborate on her pre Supremes recordings. Thanks.

You are being offered big money to tell your story? You'd better hope your alleged publisher doesn't read this because it will be all over!

He has no publisher, he has no story, he has no one except Roberta! What could he tell about these singers from the 60s &70s that I don't already know? He doesn't even live in America. He worked with Diane years after she was even relevant and I know Jean Terrell is not going to tell you anything juicy! She will say that she does not remember to prevent it!

I have been very fortunate to interview the great Jean Terrell a couple of months back. She afforded me three glorious hours and after a rather strained first half hour Jean really relaxed and told me some fascinating stuff about her time with the Supremes. She had previously rebuffed all my previous attempts to gain an interview and admitted this would probably be the final interview she would ever give to anyone. I am not quite sure how i am going to proceed with all this information but i learnt stuff i never previously knew, and had stuff confirmed to me that i always suspected had occurred. I also met Lynda who may well turn out to be my favourite ever Supreme. She was fantastic company and had some very strong opinions!! I adored her. So that is four Supremes i have met in four months. Wonderful stuff. I have no plans to interview Scherrie and Susaye as they do not fall within the remit of my proposed project, but all in all it has been a very satisfying year for me on a professional capacity. I will keep you posted. Thank you for the interest
