I read at Soulful Detroit that Clive Davis has been pursuing Diana Ross for years but Diana does not want to tour to support a new album.
I will not address the obvious inconsistencies of that comment and how ridiculous it is.
Clive Davis said that RCA paid too much money for Diana Ross after she ALREADY PEAKED AS A RECORDING ARTIST. RCA lost money on the deal and the recording division nearly went bankrupt because they did not make any major acquisitions to compensate for the loss. Her track record at RCA is deceiving. The singles went top ten because of airplay with the exception of Muscles, which was actually a hit because of record sales.
None of the albums at RCA sold well despite some being platinum and gold. They SHIPPED gold and platinum and sat in the stores and then went to the cut out bin. Remember, this was in the days before Soundscan.
Clive Davis would never sign Diana Ross because he is a businessman. Lena Horne's agent approached him in the late 60s after Lena was dropped from United Artist. He wouldn't sign her because Lena had already peaked as a recording artist, and he was right. Time proved this to be true. He also refused to sign Diahann Carroll , Sammy Davis Jr, Jack Jones, and many others.
I would post a picture of myself and my wife at the NYC concert but I don't want any comments about my wife's feet. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Ross was never signed in the US after being dropped from Motown. She was signed for a one album deal in the UK with EMI Angel. The album was her biggest flop of her solo career there. The album, I Love You, was DISTRIBUTED in the US.

I'm serious. The album is cheap sounding. I asked around 'on the street' about this album. I was told Diane went to Clive and begged him to revitalize her career the way that he did with Dionne and Aretha. He respectfully declined.
Bluesocks is in my opinion an old Diana Ross queen who still believes everyone is bowing down to Miss Ross. Clive Davis is not reaching out to sign Diane.

I like the version by the Platter but Diana Ross' version is much better.

You are wasting your time posting that here. I am still not going to listen to that shit. Diana Ross has not made a decent album since the 70s.

Clive Davis is not still reaching out to sign Ross and never has. Clive Davis, an attorney is known for his business acumen. He astute judgment in not signing Ross proved correct when I Love You was another in a long series of albums that had world wide sales of less than 200,000. At some point you have to realize that the public is sending out a message - have a seat!

She is crazy....all messed up. What would be the benefit to Clive Davis to sign Diana Ross to a recording contract when RCA never recouped the investment they made in their contract with her? Motown didn't either for that matter.

Listen obese lady-man Marv-Hector, not one record company has invested in old Moisty Walliams, not one. Contrary to the lies and bullshit that you and that old Cuban slut TWTR4EVAH that blow you every night, spread about Ross, Diana has had an amazing career that aunt mary can only dream of. While Diana was selling out stadiums and making movies Miriam Watkins was on her knees giving sloppy head.It didn't matter if they were married, single, gay or straight Black White or yellow, poor old mary would screw them. mary's talent was between those tree trunk thighs of hers. that's why she only know as mary wilson from the supremes. No talent whatsoever. she clapped and danced in the backgound from 1959 to 1975 and then was forgotten until she write that bullshit book trashing Berry and every living Supreme.the old Ho blew the bucks she made from the book sales on blow, liquor and chicken wings for her heifer of a daughter.
Now list Marv-He tour-DetroitLIES313, should you be washing out your size 58 skid mark panties or sucking up to that old gray man who's ass you was up at that Detroit book signing. You have no shame BITCH.

If you read both of Clive Davis' books, he discusses in great deal about record companies who signed artists for outrageous sums of money when they had passed their prime and exactly how such poor judgment radically affected and undermined the bottom line. Ross represents the exact type of artist he would never sign. Also, Clive Davis likes world class singers - Diana Ross cannot sing.

That's why she works her background singers to death. They have a thankless job of having to carry her shows and get NO real name recognition from it!
