Shoulda never happened like that. From the git-go, it should have been billed honestly, as "Diana Ross, with Supremes Scherrie Payne & Linda Lawrence". Names on the marquee would have gone a long way towards legitimizing all the talents, and offering respect for the group, without necessitating equal shares of the loot. She should have pitched it as, "here's your chance to make some 21st-Century-sized tour money, and help the fans reconcile their love of the group with the bad blood I'm trying to put behind us". This would have given her license to work in more solo stuff, and justify her larger share of the pie. It was Berry Gordy who made her a star above her partners, and although the original members can blame her for being a b**** about it, they could at least see her as trying to start making it right with them and their rightful legacy. Also, dedicating a portion of the tour reciepts to causes (or a trust) that would benefit the original members in some way, would have been another fine P.R. step in the right direction. The truth is, Diana Ross was not trying to put bad blood behind them. She was playing a game of "Get Back"! She failed miserably. She doesn't tell you that she went to see the "Former Ladies of the Supremes" aka "The FLOS" in concert in Vegas in 1998 as sort of a scouting trip for her soon to be planned "Supremes Reunion" tour. That was the very first time she made an effort to catch their act. There were people there that were eyewitnesses to Diana's "recruitment" efforts. She never planned to have Mary Wilson or Cindy Birdsong on tour with her. She did all those machinations just to be able to tell the fans she tried. Actually she lied! How do you suppose that they had all the costumes and routines ready for Lynda & Scherrie just weeks before the Tour launched and Mary Wilson's offer of $4 million was turned down with a "Sorry, but the train has already left the station...."? Even Berry Gordy got involved to try to negotiate on behalf of Mary and Cindy Birdsong but those mother fuckers acting as promoters and Diana were not having it! I am so glad that they lost a lot of money and she ruined what was left of her reputation and career. For being such a major asshole, she is now just another touring Oldies act and not even a very good one! No one is interested in interviewing her or having her on television in America. Very interesting. I just read a repugnant post about Ross making catty comments to Flo at Berry Gordy's party. I believe she did just what you said. An honest woman would have cancelled the tour and given the money back. No, Ross wanted to go forward and prove to the world what Berry thought: Ross will sound good regardless of who is singing background.
I see no reason for her not to split the money equally.
A friend of mine said, "Ross thought she was that fierce. The public told her, no you are not!" Indeed.

Who cares if Diane tried some muff back in tha day! Mare's done it a few times and loves it. She frequented Kitty Bar and Booty Bar when she was home in Vegas and loves the attention of a big butch gal. I heard that Mary was "in the life" in the eighties.
Mary looks like with all the ups and down she has had some good times and enjoys life. Diane's life shows on her face now, and it ain't pretty.

Tony Turner reveals in his book, “All That Glittered,” that the Supremes were the first ladies of the Motown picnics. At their picnic table, they ate off fine china with sterling silverware and crystal glassware and cloth napkins and a huge arrangement of fresh-cut flowers. And then there were the Marvelettes and the Vandellas, they were at a table close by drinking beer and eating off paper plates. Diana Ross made the comment, “How common!”

when they played in Columbus, Ohio, June 20, there were fewer than 3,000 people in a 22,000-seat arena. Detroit Michigan It was estimated that 10,000 were in attendance. I thought the show was fantastic. I have seen Diana many times before, but this was THE BEST. She looked great, sounded great and put on a show that was the ultimate Supremes concert. The set list was different from the Philly opener. It included more Supremes songs. Set List Overture Reflections My World Is Empty Without You Come See About Me Back In My Arms Again You Can't Hurry Love Where Did Our Love Go Baby Love Stop In the Name of Love Love Child Up The Ladder (Lynda solo) Stoned Love (Scherrie solo) Somewhere Love Hangover Intermission I'm Coming Out Chain Reaction Mahogany Ain't No Mountain High Enough When The Lovelights Start Shining Through His Eyes Love Is Here and Now You're Gone The Happening Money I Hear a Symphony Love is Like An Itching In My Heart Nothing But Heartaches You Keep Me Hanging On Reach Out I'll Be There Encore Best Years of My Life I Will Survive Audience included members of Diana's family (father, sister Rita, son Evan) Scherrie's sister Freda Payne, Esther Edwards (Berry Gordy's sister). Everyone there had such a great time. Thanks Diana, Lynda and Scherrie -- for allowing us to Return to Love with you. It was a night that will be never be forgotten.
As a long time Supremes fan, I do find it very sad that something was not worked out with Mary and Cindy. However, I do have to say that I loved Scherrie Payne's vocals on those last Supremes albums.

Turner also reveals, Flo once told me, “I was instrumental in starting the Supremes and I asked Mary and another girl to join and then Paul Williams (Temptations) came along and asked if Diana could join too. I never wanted Diana in the group, I didn’t like her voice because it wasn’t that strong but Paul was friendly with Diana at the time and since he helped me with my singing career, I owed him a favor and said okay.”

Maybe because she's so forgettable? Think about it, she's just a product of the Motown production line. I give her props for her diva attitude though. That's what pple remember about her. Btw, did she ever write or produce her own songs? Diana Ross has never wrote her own songs. I don't know about producing. I do know that she can barely write a coherent sentence! No one in my family was impressed with Ross or the Supremes. I remember my mother commenting that Ross appeared uneducated. Paris Hilton had something or whatever hacked. What surfaced is that she cannot spell, and doesn't understand grammar. Brittney Spears and O.J. Simpson are examples of people who are functional illiterates. Is Ross one of them? I suspect from the career choices that she has made after leaving Motown that she is not that bright. Also, that book Secrets of Sparrow speaks volumes that she is a dumb, vapid, snotty, cruel bitch.

Diane was not as popular as people think after she left the Supremes. Without a hit record, her albums sold a couple of hundred thousand. People just bought the albums that were hits because of the singles that she opened her legs for.

She has repeatedly mistreated people. That has nothing to do with being a success in business or otherwise. People should not believe you have to be a fucked up individual to succeed.

I believe Ross took it hard when Jay Leno made the joke about if you want to enjoy solitude - go to RTL. She has never really recovered from that fiasco. Her decline has been pretty shocking, actually,
