She slept her way to the top, first with Berry Gordy and then with lots of Caucasian men. LOTS! She even tried it on with NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg! Mr. Personality......

Shoulda never happened like that. From the git-go, it should have been billed honestly, as "Diana Ross, with Supremes Scherrie Payne & Linda Lawrence". Names on the marquee would have gone a long way towards legitimizing all the talents, and offering respect for the group, without necessitating equal shares of the loot. She should have pitched it as, "here's your chance to make some 21st-Century-sized tour money, and help the fans reconcile their love of the group with the bad blood I'm trying to put behind us".
This would have given her license to work in more solo stuff, and justify her larger share of the pie. It was Berry Gordy who made her a star above her partners, and although the original members can blame her for being a b**** about it, they could at least see her as trying to start making it right with them and their rightful legacy. Also, dedicating a portion of the tour reciepts to causes (or a trust) that would benefit the original members in some way, would have been another fine P.R. step in the right direction.

when they played in Columbus, Ohio, June 20, there were fewer than 3,000 people in a 22,000-seat arena. Detroit Michigan It was estimated that 10,000 were in attendance. I thought the show was fantastic. I have seen Diana many times before, but this was THE BEST. She looked great, sounded great and put on a show that was the ultimate Supremes concert. The set list was different from the Philly opener. It included more Supremes songs. Set List Overture Reflections My World Is Empty Without You Come See About Me Back In My Arms Again You Can't Hurry Love Where Did Our Love Go Baby Love Stop In the Name of Love Love Child Up The Ladder (Lynda solo) Stoned Love (Scherrie solo) Somewhere Love Hangover Intermission I'm Coming Out Chain Reaction Mahogany Ain't No Mountain High Enough When The Lovelights Start Shining Through His Eyes Love Is Here and Now You're Gone The Happening Money I Hear a Symphony Love is Like An Itching In My Heart Nothing But Heartaches You Keep Me Hanging On Reach Out I'll Be There Encore Best Years of My Life I Will Survive Audience included members of Diana's family (father, sister Rita, son Evan) Scherrie's sister Freda Payne, Esther Edwards (Berry Gordy's sister). Everyone there had such a great time. Thanks Diana, Lynda and Scherrie -- for allowing us to Return to Love with you. It was a night that will be never be forgotten.

The truth is, Diana Ross was not trying to put bad blood behind them. She was playing a game of "Get Back"! She failed miserably. She doesn't tell you that she went to see the "Former Ladies of the Supremes" aka "The FLOS" in concert in Vegas in 1998 as sort of a scouting trip for her soon to be planned "Supremes Reunion" tour. That was the very first time she made an effort to catch their act. There were people there that were eyewitnesses to Diana's "recruitment" efforts. She never planned to have Mary Wilson or Cindy Birdsong on tour with her. She did all those machinations just to be able to tell the fans she tried. Actually she lied! How do you suppose that they had all the costumes and routines ready for Lynda & Scherrie just weeks before the Tour launched and Mary Wilson's offer of $4 million was turned down with a "Sorry, but the train has already left the station...."? Even Berry Gordy got involved to try to negotiate on behalf of Mary and Cindy Birdsong but those mother fuckers acting as promoters and Diana were not having it! I am so glad that they lost a lot of money and she ruined what was left of her reputation and career. For being such a major asshole, she is now just another touring Oldies act and not even a very good one! No one is interested in interviewing her or having her on television in America.

INSIDE BALLARD'S FUNERAL: Tony Turner claims in his book, "All That Glittered," that Florence Ballard called him in October of 1975 and said, "Baby, I'm making a comeback! I'm back in the money honey, you gotta come up and see my new home. I'm the first person in Detroit with a brand-new Cadillac Seville. They rode it off the assembly line for me." After we hung up, I talked to a mutual friend who told me that the money came from Berry Gordy because he felt bad. When I talked to Flo again, she mentioned that she had just finished a tell-all book, titled, "Flo: My Story." She also said that Doubleday was interested in publishing it. She added. "It's hot stuff baby, you have no idea what went on." The last time I talked to Flo, she said she was headed out to get some KFC. The next day, a friend informed me that she had died, I screamed, what! I just spoke to her yesterday, what happened? He said, 'she fell on the floor in the living room and she was paralyzed, they think she had a stroke, she was talking but her speech was slurred. When they got her to the hospital, she had a seizure and died. They said her body was filled with blood clots and one of the clots shot directly up to her heart.' There was calls back and forth with Motown. Diana Ross was coming to the funeral and things had to be planned to accommodate her. At the funeral, suddenly I heard a complete pandemonium of boos, people shouting, "bitch," as others cheered and clapped. I said to myself, it must be Diana. A limo roared up to the church door with the horn blaring. The crowd scampered out of the way, the limo door shot open, bodyguards jumped out, there was a big hush as Diana stepped out of the car. Her entrance seemed rehearsed, the timing perfect. Diana looked appropriatedly tragic. The suit she had on was perfect. She looked straight ahead, her face immobile. She glided past Flo's family. She didn't look at any of them. She came in as if she was the chief mourner with guards on each side of her. When she reached the middle of the church, she let out a blood-curdling scream. She threw her hands up and went limp, fell out, she was picked up by her bodyguards and was taken to the front row pew where she was fanned and revived. She sat there clutching Flo's daughter. By the time we reached the cemetery, I looked around to see where Diana was but Diana wasn't there. I later found out she had left. About a year and a half later, I found out that Flo's husband Tommy had sold Flo's book to Motown for $10,000. Then in 1984, when I was helping Mary Wilson remember and research her book, "Dreamgirl," we located Tommy. He told me, you and Mary need to come down here, I'm going to tell you the whole story because I remember what my wife wrote and I want Mary to tell it. Motown set her up, they blacklisted her, everything was hushed up. After we hung up, Mary said, "I can't wait to get down there," but we had to wait because Mary was scheduled to appear near there in a month. Two weeks after I contacted Tommy, I got a call from a friend, he said, 'Tommy is dead, someone shot him in the head in a pool hall. They don't know who did it.'

“A lot of people realized it wasn’t a true Supremes reunion and it cast a negative pall on the tour before it even started,” said Gary Bongiovanni, editor of Pollstar, a concert industry trade publication. It’s one of the biggest business disasters yet for SFX, the company that dominates the concert industry. Industry insiders speculated that they paid too much for Ross and overestimated her appeal. They also underestimated the love and recognition the public had for Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong. Some guy from SFX even said he was surprised that Mary wanted more money as he had never knew her name before tour discussions. That was a big admission of just how stupid the promoters were. Why would you invest millions into a product, service or anything and not know what the key ingredients are? In this case Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong two-thirds of the group! Stupidity at the highest level. If they were that ignorant, all they had to do was pick up a couple of Supremes albums or simply Google....."The Supremes". Idiots the whole lot at SFX/TNA! Reports fropm Detroit are that her voice was being run through a computer, enhanbced and then played back. Is it live or is it Memorex? Also, if these two "supremes" are so talented why were they backed up by another trio?

" Then, Wilson aims both barrels: "I'm as talented as the next person, and I'm not going to let people dictate to me what my talent is," she says pointedly. "People think I'm a background singer. I'm nobody's shadow. I have a name: It's Mary Wilson.
" If she sounds as though she's on the defensive - well, she is. It has been that kind of year. Wilson and Ross have been at each other's throats since April, when Ross announced the "Return to Love" tour - touted as a reunion of the hugely popular '60s group the Supremes. But two of the original Supremes - Wilson and Cindy Birdsong (she replaced the late Florence Ballard in 1967) - were left off the lineup, replaced by two latter-day Supremes who had never before worked with Ross. At the center of the battle was money, honey. Ross was being guaranteed $500,000 per show - an amount that could have mushroomed to about $20 million if the 30-city tour had not been canceled after 12 stops. But Wilson was offered only a lump sum of $3 million. A spokeswoman for Ross said the singer was unavailable for comment. But in several interviews, Ross has accused Wilson of being "envious" and "jealous," and said if she, Ross, had offered Wilson "the moon, she would not have been happy.
" Not too surprisingly, Wilson has her own version of what happened. "People were told - including myself - that there was an opportunity for a reunion to happen, and that is what I was hoping for," Wilson says. "It's what I've been praying for all these years. [The original Supremes] made one unique sort of woman, and that's what the people wanted to see again. And that's what I wanted to feel again, because Diane [Ross' original first name] ... has elements that I admire, and that I would have liked to experience again now that we're mature. "But that wasn't their idea of what was going to happen, and they didn't accept me. I did not turn the tour down; my proposal was turned down. They did not accept me - period. My position was this: If I'm a Supreme, I get one-third. That's what I asked for. They did not accept

Tony Turner reveals in his book, “All That Glittered,” that Florence Ballard once told him a story about one of Berry Gordy’s parties at his pool house. Of course Flo wasn’t invited but Mary Wilson allegedly kept hammering at her to go along uninvited and Flo said she thought it was a bad idea but she went anyway. She got all dressed up and turned up with Mary.
“Tony, you could have heard a pin drop. After the gasps had died down. She told me, “Honey it was like when Moses parted the Red Sea, everyone moved aside for me to glide by.”
They were all glad to see her but nobody could appear too thrilled because Berry Gordy and Diana Ross were watching. Flo said she stayed clear of Berry Gordy and he made no attempt to acknowledge her existence. He was stretched out on a chaise and Diana was stretched out on the next chaise. They had their court jesters around them, so Flo and Mary sauntered over to the other side of the pool, to the bar area and soon enough, Diana started to make little trips over.
Flo said every time Diana came over the whole place got quiet. The first time, she came over and asked Flo how she was doing. Flo said, “Pretty good, and you?” Diana went back to Berry and they started whispering. Five minutes later she was back, she’d heard that Flo’s two singles flopped. How had her career been going since? Flo answered, “Fine.” Diana went back and whispered to Gordy, everyone else went back to their conversations with an eye and ear open in Flo’s direction.
Five minutes later Diana’s back again, commenting on Flo’s weight (size 9), and isn’t that the dress Flo bought four or five years ago when she sang background for Diana, and how it's amazing that the dress still fits.
Flo answered “Yeah,” very loudly and asked Diana, “Ain’t that the same wig you wore five years ago?” Every time Diana comes over she gets bitchier, and Flo gets louder.
Flo’s slugging cocktails, she’s warming up now, Diana comes over to talk about Flo’s weight again and when she leaves Flo turns to Mary and screams, “IF THAT FUCKING BITCH COMES OVER HERE ONE MORE TIME I’M GONNA KICK HER BLACK ASS!"
Everyone stops breathing, all eyes swing from Flo over to Diana and Gordy and the next thing you hear is Berry Gordy saying, “Who brought this woman here?” He’s shooting daggers at Mary, “Whoever brought this woman here better get her out of my house!"
Flo stormed out with her head held high.

Roberta75 posted that she had received numerous private messages regarding this. I didn't know who he was. He wrote a book that I am going to order from Amazon. Of course it is all lies and exploitation according to them, like all Ross books except Secrets of A Sparrow. It looks like Tony Turner's portrayed Ross as the devious, malicious bitch she is. What I just read was terrible. She has an evil streak in her.
I believe Soulful Detroit was very important around 2000. Fast forward to 2016. Most of the important players in the Detroit scene are 70-90 years old. Hip O Select is dead. There are books on the market about most of the artists. Radio does not play classic Motown anymore. Advertisers do not care about reaching the 65+ crowd. A new generation is celebrating their history and that is 80s and 90s R&B and Hip Hop. The 60s and 70s are what the 40s and 50s were for the Motown generation. I doubt Tony Turner cares about an obsolete forum dying a slow death.
I find it interesting Tony Turner is viewed as the anti-Christ and a neo Hitler in that community, ultimately verifying the frivolity of the information that can be obtained from there.

Moonwalker by Michael Jackson and Secrets of A Sparrow by Diana Ross are considered the two worst autobiographies ever written. Google them and find out for yourself. The Obama years were about celebration of self, the information age. Forums are dead because they are the exact opposite of celebrating the individual and the information age. Everyone is a superstar on Facebook, twitter, snapchat, instagram, and youtube. Forums will be around for education and support groups like chemo patients. Yeah, I have to agree with you.

I am going to do a mass order on Motown at Amazon and get 'em all.
