I'm not doubting Vern that you heard that from a "close associate". I happened to have heard the opposite. If Barbra ever reveals herself that she "has never liked Diana", of course I'll believe it 100%. But that will never happen, because it's simply not true.

Diana followed up Barbra's "Guilty" with a Barry Gibb produced album. And she's recorded "Heart Don't Pay Change Mind." The "Funny Girl" Supremes fiasco was Barry Gordy's attempt to make his star into Barbra...plain and simple. I'm not sure that Diana (or any of the Motown stars) had much (if anything) to say in regards to what they recorded. Though it's true...Diana had a true "wanna be" thing going for Barbra. As far as Barbra's feelings towards Diana...I haven't a clue. Barbra doesn't really talk much about others in show business, which I admire tremendously.

Diane has always been a phony kiss-ass and Barbra Streisand doesn't go for that. They've never been anything other than professional acquaintances. If Diane could have wormed her way into Barbra's inner cirlcle, Diane would have. Diane didn't.

There is truth to the Sunset Boulevard rumor. Andrew LLoyd Webber did indeed think Diana Ross would have been great to replace Glenn Close in LA (according to interviews with ALW back then after the Faye Dunaway fiasco) , butDiana Ross couldn't make it work with her Motown schedule. He then went with Dunaway, and we all know what a mess that turned into. Allegedly, she was on his 'short list' for the movie version - but then again, what musical actress hasn't been on his short list in the past dozen years?

After GUILTY, the Gibb brothers were a hot producing duo very much wanted by a number of labels for their artists. After Streisand, they produced "Heartbreaker" for Dionne Warwick on the direction of Arista CEO Clive Davis (Warwick would later say she was indifferent to the idea, but was happy with the results) in 1982. In 1983, RCA asked them to produce for Ross, but Ross had no interest. They sent her 'demos' of "Eyes That See In The Dark" and "Islands In The Stream" which Barry Gibb would duet with - she refused both. They ended up producing Kenny Rogers (also at RCA) instead, and those two songs went to him - and he had a #1 duet with Dolly Parton on the latter.
RCA finally convinced Ross to work with Gibb in 1986, and she agreed only if Michael Jackson would oversee the album as well, which they all agreed to (though Barry Gibb later said he couldn't understand why MJ had to be involved). The result was the CD "Eaten Alive" which did very well around the world - except the US. Gibb would later say the recoding sessions with Ross were 'difficult'. (Probably because Ross had no interest in working with him).

Long before Streisand was lnked to "A Star Is Born", when it was still called 'Rainbow Road', Berry Gordy suggested Ross for the film - opposite David Bowie. She was hot off the success of "LSTB" (1972) and "Mahogany" (which had just opened to be a box office hit). The studio was interested, but afraid that an inter-racial romantic couple would turn audiences away from the box office (1975-76) and ended up dropping the suggestion. Then they turned to Cher...then Streisand grabbed it.

I'll say it again, there was no way ANY studio would have backed Cher in a movie,in a starring role.not in 74,not in 75,not in 76,and not in 77. Her "movie" career was a joke at that time.Of course Cher would prove herself as a great actress in some really great movies, but in the 70s her career not what it was, would not have had the confidence of stdio execs.. As for Ross in Sunset Blvd.,how would they explain a black washed up silent movie star? There weren't any.

Lindsay Lohan should star in the Diana Ross biopic. That would be suitable casting.

Diane was offered a part in Witches of Eastwick (they wanted at least one black actress in the cast) but Diane turned down the movie - Diane was trying to get production going on an American version of 'Diva' at the time, starring her.

Diva Plot Line
Two tapes, two Parisian mob killers, one corrupt policeman, an opera fan, a teenage thief, and the coolest philosopher ever filmed. All these characters twist their way through an intricate and stylish French language thriller. (The diva was played by opera singer Wihlelmina Fernandez who gave a stunning performance).
Diane was going to play the part of the opera diva (which was a small but important role in the film), but wanted the storyline to be more focused on her.

Yes, it's been confirmed....Diana Ross was ready to make the American version of "Diva" in the mid-80s, starring opposite Michael Jackson, but then Streisand got her hands on the project and cast herself opposite Don Johnson.
Upon hearing the news, Diana Ross said to her manager: " Barbra Streisand! What the fuck does Streisand know about being a Diva?" to which her manager responded: "OK, now that's a stupid question. Let's forget you even asked that."

I saw Ross perform this year. I was not impressed. I mean Ross is historical and all, and I appreciate Ross' breakthroughs for folks, but not really feelin' a motown revival of songs. At least Barbra Streisand has always had a new act.

There no more fan groups for Diana Ross because most people over 40 either do not like her or have moved on. Those under 40 don't really know who she is.
