Wasn't there a rumor going around that Diana Ross was going to be featured on a duet with Barbra on LOVE IS THE ANSWER and that she was suppose to do an album with Diane Krall when Barbra's project was completed. I think these rumors get started by enthusiastic fans who simply want things to happen.

I doubt Barbra would go anywhere near a duet with Miss Ross, whose awe and adulation has always been a bit creepy. Diana Ross and The Supremes Sing Funny Girl, for example. It would be just too icky to contemplate a duet with someone who pretty much wants to be you.

Ross does not have the artistic vision and intelligence of Barbra Streisand. Ross still sings from her throat. Ross will resort to yelling, screaming, or whispering the lyrics.

I thought she just waved the mic to the audience and have them sing her songs at the concerts.

Barbra would NEVER record a duet with Ross. Barbra never liked Ross.

I have no idea if they ever recorded a duet, but I don't think Barbra and Diana have ever had an issue. Seems like just a crazy rumor mill over the years, as usual.

Barbra has never liked Diana. She was furious about Diana singing the "FG" songs and made several comments about it. Diana was also quite upset that Barbra and Jon snatched "The Main Event" from her because it was initially to be a Ross/O'Neal vehicle

Barbra may not have liked Diana, but Diana liked Barbra. Remember that too candid moment from the Grammys, the year Barbra appeared with Barry Gibb to present Best Male Vocal? Barbra walked out (with Barry), all in white. She looked amazing. The audience reaction was wild and the cameras got Diana Ross standing in the audience, mouthing the word, "WOW!"
Come on, who's the greatest star

Yes, but the FG recording was in 1968, and The Main Event was in 1979. This duet was in 1975 (if it happened).
Ross was one of the many names thrown around for the movie version of SB, because he thought she would be ideal for Norma Desmond. ALW originally wanted her to replace Glenn Close back in 1995 for the LA production, but she was committed to Motown for recording/promoting "Take Me Higher".

I'm not "assuming" anything. I was told by a close associate of Barbra's that she never liked Diana.
1. They never recorded a duet.
2. Diana's kiss-ass adoration/passive-aggressive jealousy of Barbra turned Streisand OFF.
3. Diana may have attended BJS premieres...so what? She's a big name and the studios enjoy having her at events. It's called publicity.
4. Barbra has never been friends with "Miss Ross." End of story

A lot of people aren't friends that doesn't mean they dislike each other. I do agree there's not a duet between Barbra and Diana.

I'd never heard that Diana Ross and Ryan O'Neal were rumoured for THE MAIN EVENT. I do remember, years before it was ever filmed, they were to have done THE BODYGUARD together

Yes, "The Main Event" was originally a Ross/O'Neal vehicle brokered by Sue Mengers, Ryan's agent. When Jon read the script, he snatched it up for Barbra, who was also handled by Sue.
