The song was released in 1988, as the theme to Steven Spielberg's Land Before Time. It sold 0 copies in the US. There were some complaints that it was not on Workin Overtime, further confusing fans about her music and image direction.
Ross fans say she continued to sell well overseas when her music career tanked in the US. Isn't it interesting that a UK label wouldn't sign her for a long term contract when Motown dropped her.

No one in America heard the song which sounds like it belongs some where in the late 60s or very early 70s. I am not surprised that it did not sell in the United States. People hate her music here. They still love ALL the Supremes music, but Diana Ross? No way!

Diana Ross' voice is still so beautiful! She sounds very good. There was a time a few years back where I thought she had either lost her voice or was very close to losing it. Whatever she has done since has worked. Still such a beautiful voice and great song.

Whatever she has done since has worked. Still such a beautiful voice and great song. She has been encouraged to preserve her voice and treat it like the instrument that it is following a number of years where she did not look after it. Also she is more content in her personal life and that has helped her to get her voice back in shape. Now would be the perfect time for her to get back into the studio and record some new music...............

Her voice has been destroyed and she has a permanent raspy, screech thing going on now. She has also burned her bridges which is why she can only get work touring small theaters, casinos and county fairs across the country now.

I listened to that video of her RTL show and her voice was weak and scratchy then and that was in 2000, 17 years ago. She can barely carry a tune now. Her background singers and band cover for her when the audience is not singing the lyrics.

I don't understand that if she was still selling huge amounts of recordings over there. What? They just decided they did not want to make money or could it be that the honest truth was Miss Ross was hardly selling anymore there either.

Ross' big seller in the 90s was not an album of original material. it was the One Woman The Ultimate, which sold 1,200,000 copies in the UK. The Here and Now tour capitalized on the success of that compilation, lasted for two years and had 29 sold out concerts in that continent alone. Force Behind The Power sold 300,000 in the UK. Fast forward to 1995 -Take Me Higher debuted in the UK charts at number 10. However, it was off the charts in a couple of weeks and sold less than 30,000 copies. It did not receive any sales certifications. Ross did a Take Me Higher Tour, but in many of the dates, the album had not been released. The plug was pulled on the Take Me Higher Tour, the beginning of many career reverses for Ross.

I thought "Return to Love" was her first. I also did not know it was happening as far back as the 90s. So now she has no record deal, no concert promoters, interviews or TV appearances. I have to believe with Ross making all the decisions for her career that all of these failures are her own fault. She hasn't done anything that the American public would be aware of in decades.

Some of the dates were a mess for the Take Me Higher tour because she performed a lot of new material from the album and the album had not been released yet. It received a mixed reaction from the crowds, with some people walking out. Take Me Higher was not well received in Europe because Ross incorporated urban sounds on the album, and urban is not always well received there. Why do you think Ross needed a Supremes reunion the next time around?

Why do you think Ross needed a Supremes reunion the next time around? When only a fraction of 1% of the American public has heard Diana Ross' Take Me Higher album, it is safe to say that no one here has heard it or knows it. I don't recall any of the songs getting radio play. The only thing about the album I remember is that she performed a few songs from it at the Super Bowl and afterwards no one bought it. It made her look like a fool. Since we are being honest, the majority of the people in the general public go to see Diana Ross to hear Supremes songs like "Baby Love", "Stop In the Name of Love" etc. They do not want to hear "Take Me Higher" or any of the shit from her "current album". They do not even want to hear her tired versions of Billie Holiday's songs. They want the Original Supremes songs, but Diana Ross was only singing very short and very fast medley's containing snippets of the songs for years in her concerts. That is why people would get pissed and walk out on her. We call her an "Oldies Act" now, but in reality, she's been an Oldies Act to the general public since the latter part of the 80s. It shows when NONE of her releases since 1985 have been hits here in America.

Ask Stephen Woods on Facebook....he'll tell you what Diana Ross' son's guest list will be and the Supremes had for lunch every day too in 1966! In some way, Woods reminds me of Donald Trump. Lie after lie to con people into thinking he's an expert in something he actually knows nothing about. Take what he says with a grain of salt. I hope Trumps impeached real soon before he completely ruins our planet and ruins our long standing relationships and ruins everyones civil rights. Hes unfit to serve or lead. Praying for London.
