Diana's engagement at City Center starts tonight! I'll be on the lookout for reviews, YT posts, etc. and post what I find. I saw Aretha at City Center during the 'United Together' era and loved the theatre; it will be great for Diana and her fans -

Absolutely - the genuine love for Diana and the joy per performances spread is, as you say, heartwarming! A talent for the ages, Our Miss Ross is.

This is so, sad. Aretha Franklin was scheduled to play Radio City Music Fall last fall but had to cancel due to medical problems. Miss Ross is not a big enough star to play Radio City Music Hall. What is the difference? The Queen of Soul has enough fans to fill the hall for the night, whereas Miss Ross has to have the same people go to the show for all three nights. I cannot believe how far Diana Ross has dropped. Thanks to Whoopi for supporting a sister. Poor thing, she thinks Miss Ross has been gone for ten years, when Miss Ross has been slaving for 10 years, playing every gin mill dive in the US to pay the rent.

Ross does good business in NYC, CA, and Nevada. The problem is that Ross is good for the tribe giving her repeated business but can no longer attract one large crowd. This is very sad because this venue would have been beneath Ross in the 90s.
Hey, I assume Bluebrock was there. Any pics?
Roberta75 did you attend as a man or a woman? LOL

It's official - the first three nights were completely sold out! I honestly believe it's because she is enjoying herself onstage. She truly seemed to be having as much fun as the audience. Her voice is in good shape, she's never abused it or diminished it by oversinging as some singers have. But, we were having a great time because she was having a great time. It showed in her interaction with her band and singers. Also, she is the first singer I've seen who had lights come up on the audience at the end of every number. She would point up to people in the Mezzanine and balcony, and wave at people. She said "You don't know this but while you're watching me, I'm watching you. I can see everybody. "

It's official - the first three nights were completely sold out! As small and old as that place is, it should have sold out weeks ago! There are enough freaks in the Tri-State area to have made it a long standing engagement for "Diana, Queen of the Freaks!" LOL! Normal people do not attend her shows because most think she is dead or retired.

LOL Have you seen the list of the types of shows that play at City Center? LOL! She is only one that is semi-known at this point. One of her fans posted somewhere that if all 5 shows sell out, that would make something like 11,000 seats sold. Excuse me if I am wrong, but a viable artist playing MSG (Madison Square Garden) would sell 19,812 seats in one night! It puts things in perspective don't ya think?

You heard Whoopi say out of her own mouth that people did not know that Diana Ross was still singing! LOL! She also said that you can still get tickets.....so GO! Whoopi knows like so many others know that Diana Ross is struggling so please go and help a poor old washed up singer out! LOL!!!!

Diana could never draw the size crowds that Aretha still does today. It was admirable that Whoopi Goldberg would do what she could to promote Diana Ross' shows especially with her being such good friends with Mary Wilson. I bet Mary would say good things too. It must be hard on them to watch Diane's career dissolve into nothing right before their eyes.

"The Supremes were hot stuff back in the day and they are still hot stuff, together and apart. It's so great to know that some of the legends of Motown are still doing it as well as they are and that they are being as well received as they are. And the love for Diana Ross in this clip is the result of decades of music magic. The woman is phenomenal. "
Agreed
It is indeed sad and weird. I've managed to bypass negative comments by adding them to my 'ignore' list. Anyhoo - and a great (indeed, historic!) career Diana Ross has and continues to have, as currently proven by the excitement over the release of the 'A' Go-Go' album and the sellout crowds at Manhattan's City Center!

I knew they were lying, thank you Chainreaction. There approx 8 million people in NYC and over 16 million in the Metro area. It looks like what happened on her South American tour is happening now. A tiny fraction of the people that could go see her are going over and over. LOL!!!!
