You noticed that they put Diana Ross on during the first night of the Essence Festival? They never put the popular acts on first like that. Even with India Arie and John Legend, the stadium was still almost empty. Diana Ross was never a headliner. Mary J. Blige and Chance the Rapper were the real headliners. They put the lightweights on first. Just like when her son got married, no one in America was interested. No one in New Orleans for the Festival was interested in seeing her. It would devastate Diana Ross fans if a poll of the audience had been done on Friday night, the first night of the festival to learn that most of that small crowd actually came to hear John Legend.
At least Mary Wilson was billed as the true headliner for the Royal Variety Show at the London Palladium on June 25th.
Oprah is going to have to try to come up with something else for Diane. A Tyler Perry movie not be so out of the question now after all. LOL!!!!  Ross is not an act that is appropriate for the Essence Festival. Knowing that she playing to the largest audience since her Jamaica fiasco, I thought she would prepare for it. By preparing I mean a new show, new costumes, new arrangements etc. Ross came out in the same clothes and same show she has been running for 11 years.
I was told tickets sales were so low for her set, they gave the tickets away to save face. The crowds picked up exponentially for the acts that followed Ross. There wasn't a problem with John Legend or India Arie, but I was told people didn't want to see Ross so they stayed away from the entire show, hurting John Legend and India Arie.
John Legend and India Arie have had successful tours recently. Ross with all of her touring has yet to make the top 190 touring acts. What made the promoters think Ross would be successful at the festival?
This is the first time there was a half empty house for an Essence Festival and it was the first time Ross played. Coincidence?
Diana Ross had no business being anywhere near the Essence Festival. Why now? Why didn't she show up over 20 years ago or did she think she was too good. The turnout for segment of the festival proved that she is NOT too good and people have lost interest and do not want to see or hear her! I am sure John Legend is pissed because having Diana as the last act on the first night made it look like he could not draw a crowd as popular as his music is today.
They needed a Beyonce or a Rihanna.......not Diana Ross! The big stars like Mary j. Blige, Chaka Khan and Chance the Rapper are who everyone came to see. This all leads me to believe that "someone" used their influence to get Diana Ross the gig. It would be like hiring Ethel Merman in 1978 to headline the Disco Ball! Geez! LOL!!!! This just embarrassed Ross and her fans even more. Total humiliation! Diana Ross should have been smart enough not to take this gig after she never appeared there in it's 23 year history. I know she needs the money, but she's making a fool out of herself with her stale act. A lot of this is her fans fault! They keep telling her, they keep lying to her and telling her that she is the greatest on Earth, of all time, a diva, blah, blah, blah and evidently she is believing that bullshit while the rest of the ticket buying public looks at her as an oldies act with the same stale show as always. |

At this stage in her career Ross should be supplementing her career through endorsements. Lena Horne made big money at the end of her career doing so. This is not an option for Ross. No one will touch her. No one. In fact, there are no offers for speaking engagements despite her ads on the internet letting the public know Ross is available for your private events etc.....
Why?
Ross has set a record for 'bash' books. There are more scandalous tell-all books on the market for her than for any other performer I can think of. Her dwindling fan base claims they just prove she was difficult to work with at times. However, the powers that be think otherwise and will not touch her because she is too controversial. Those books did a tremendous amount of damage to her reputation and her career. Notice Ross has never received an honorary degree from any institution.
They were giving tickets away for her set and it was still half empty!

No she doesn't Hector's sister. It's aunt mary Wilkins that has that alcoholic, bloated look. mary and her ladyman Mark Bighole show up drunk and high at every low rent Gay red carpet event. Moisty Walliams usually wears her bellhop outfit. LMAO.
