Most people agree that the Supremes were all but finished by 1973. The sluggish record sales and poorly attended concerts concur with that. I still enjoy listening to those final 3 albums, but they did not look or sound like the Supremes anymore. The general public voted with their wallets. The Supremes time had past. As Mary said "it's time to move on". You have your own views which most people on here respect but do not particularly agree with. You should do the same. You cannot change History. The group were finished. Accept that and move forward. Live and let live.

You could say the same thing about Diana Ross starting in 1985, mate!

You are one stupid mother fucker! The Supremes were bigger than any one member except Mary Wilson. As long as she remained in the group.....there were "The Supremes". The group carried on after everyone one of those past members left. They could not continue without Mary Wilson. Once Mary left, the group ended. Berry Gordy knew that most of all. She was the Heart & Soul of the Supremes and you cannot live without your heart and you cannot die without a soul. Mary Wilson is the keeper of the Supremes Legacy. When she left the group in 1977, they were no more.......you dumbass asshole!

After her brief successful run in 1980-81, she had to really scramble for a hit record until it got so bad that by 1984 she was praying that Lionel Richie's song "Missing You" would at least make the Top 10. Sometimes people forget that all through the 70s Diana Ross had more misses than hits. Motown would get a hit on her through a lot of heavy promotion, then it would be another 4-5 records before she got another. Her solo career ran basically between 1970-80. She never achieved another number one solo hit after 1980. In the 70s it was all hit and miss. How "Touch Me in the Morning" made it to number one is a mystery. LOL!!!! To me and many others, Diana Ross was never the same without the Supremes.

To me and many others, Diana Ross was never the same without the Supremes. Missing You was going to be a flop and had stalled in the 60s on the Billboard chart. When she performed it on the American Music Awards as a tribute to Marvin Gaye it shot into the top ten. Ross coasted on Lionel Richie's talent and national mourning over the loss of Marvin Gaye for her final hit record in the US. Ross' single releases on Motown either went to number one or missed the top ten altogether. Her album sales were on the low side with Motown. The album The Boss, considered her finest moment by Ross fans, has never reached platinum status to this date.
Ross cannot get any advertisers/sponsors to underwrite her touring costs because of her reputation, which makes it that much harder to break even on the road. For example, Motorola is sponsoring Rihanna's ANTI tour.

Damn! I did not know that! I always thought or heard that "The Boss" was a run away smash hit. It's been almost 40 years and it has still not sold enough to become platinum? Wow!
True, she exploited Marvin Gaye's death with the song and video "Missing You" when the truth is in reality he could not stand her! I've even heard that he despised her and the way Berry and Motown catered to her while leaving other, more talented artists on the sidelines.

No one is going to waste their money sponsoring at tour for this no singing, mean as Hell bitch/ bed wench! It would not make any kind of financial sense to do so. She had better set up her own gigs and pay her band or else!

Michael Masser said he had to piece "Touch me in the morning" together literally line by line from many takes.

And what the fuck has that old coke addicted Ho aunty mary ever sold BITCH? Moisty has barely sold 7,000 albums in 40 years and half of those were bought by you Marv-Hector/DetroitSOW313 and that old Cuban boyfriend TWTR4EVAH, that you share a nasty, soiled double headed dildo with. As for exploiting old friends, Miriam Watkins exploits Flo Ballard at every dump the whoreish old biddy gets booked at. Her fake assed tears about Flo followed by that mannish sounding, awful rendition of "I Am Changing" she croaks, is as cheap and tacky as mary herself. Now shouldn't you and TWTR4EVAH be sewing a strand of anal beads for your weekly trip to the mensroom. You must squeak and squeal like a huge, greasy pig every time an old man shoves his nasty dick through the glory hole for you to slurp on. You're DISGUSTING and your dumb old mama should have drowned you at birth.

I've even heard that he despised her and the way Berry and Motown catered to her while leaving other, more talented artists on the sidelines. The Boss as of this writing has sold 700,000 copies and is certified Gold by the RIAA. The single sold 250,000 copies. Anita Baker's Rapture sold 6 million. I've already discussed how Whitney Houston sold more albums and singles with her very first album than Ross did in her ENTIRE solo career. Also, the DIANA album, with UPSIDE DOWN, is platinum certified - not multi-platinum. Ross has never had a multi-platinum album in her solo career.
This should let you know how popular Ross is and was. If the Boss is considered her finest moment and no Ross fan is without it - well the numbers speak for themselves. Take Me Higher is another big fan favorite and has not sold over 200,000 copies worldwide. Why do you think Ross fans have to insist her solo career started with the Supremes?

Maybe Diana Ross' songs were just popular radio songs back in the day, because she sure hasn't sold very much compared to a lot of others.

Maybe Diana Ross' songs were just popular radio songs back in the day, because she sure hasn't sold very much compared to a lot of others. The 1976 album Diana Ross had two number one singles, Love Hangover and Theme from Mahogany. This album has sold 700,000 copies to this day and is certified GOLD by the RIAA. I have never heard of an album with two number one singles with such low sales.
Janet Jackson's Control sold 6.4 million in the US and 10 million worldwide. Rhythm Nation sold 8.5 million and 12 million worldwide. Natalie Cole's Unforgettable with Love sold 7 million in the US.
Berry Gordy told Ross she wasn't selling records and she didn't believe him. This is one of the reasons he didn't release record sales data, instead we relied on myth. If it were known how much her records sold she never would have received the RCA contract.
I know the public has hated her for decades for various reasons. I believe people refuse to buy her records regardless of the quality because of her bad behavior and capacity for cruelty and her disregard of her race.

Bluecrocks says the industry ( Clive Davis, Justin timberlake, Alicia Keys etc ) is begging to work with her and she is fending off offers because she doesn't want to do a world tour. She did a world tour for I LOVE YOU. In fact, she has been touring non stop since the album's release. Worldwide sales are not over 200,000 copies.
