I know Motown dropped her because she wasn't selling many if any recordings. She was a heavy weight on their profits. She had to go and they dumped her unceremoniously!

Totally agree with you mate. The Supremes where no more after 73 IMO,Jean Cindy gone, Motown should have wound the group up,especially listening to that concert could not proceed,my ears are still bleeding sounded like sack of drowning cats so sad for Supremes legacy.cheers. You are one stupid mother fucker! The Supremes were bigger than any one member except Mary Wilson. As long as she remained in the group.....there were "The Supremes". The group carried on after everyone one of those past members left. They could not continue without Mary Wilson. Once Mary left, the group ended. Berry Gordy knew that most of all. She was the Heart & Soul of the Supremes and you cannot live without your heart and you cannot die without a soul. Mary Wilson is the keeper of the Supremes Legacy. When she left the group in 1977, they were no more.......you dumbass asshole! The post Diana-Ross Supremes were fucked from the beginning.
Ross was fucking the owner of the label and trying to launch her solo career. There's no way in hell the Supremes would be allowed to outshine Miss Ross in any way

Jean Terrell demanded to do her solo "He Ain't Heavy" for this show. Since there was no new product coming out on the group Mary attempted to renew interest in Touch and Bad Weather. She shot down Jean's demand in a rare act of rebellion (Mary had been trying to convince Jean to stay) and told both Jean and Lynda in no uncertain terms that these were the two songs they'd do for this show. Jean knew this was her last performance so she did it.[ And therefore all but signalled the end of the Supremes as we knew

It seems that the group would have done better if Mary had listened to Berry's (she says) statement 'I wash my hands ...' ) and had started with a new group/label/management somewhere else. Gotta admire her for making a silk purse from a sow's ear for decades, though, and taking any job offered. Many more talented non-lead members of other groups seemingly didn't have Wilson's claws! Good for her.

I don't know what you mean by "we". I do know that the Supremes continued on until the middle of 1977. They were on many television shows and some of their new records were on the radio. They did not end for the rest of the World. You should have told Dick Clark, Don Corneilous, Dinah Shore, Mike Douglas, Johnny Carson, Sonny & Cher, Nat Morris, Sammy Davis Jr, Nancy Wilson, etc. because they all had the Supremes as guest stars on their shows starting in 1974!

"WE" is a reference to the Little Girls of Soulful Detroit

However much you try to gloss over the facts by the time Jean and Lynda left the group the general public had all but fallen out of love with the Supremes. They had just one more moderate hit despite making some great records, and their concerts no longer attracted regular large audiences. Didn't they get booed off stage at Madison? Their act was tired despite the immense talents of Scherrie and Susaye. Those two ladies worked their butts off but the chemistry was all wrong and the public would not accept it. They were finished

They were finished I'm Going To Let My Heart Do the Walking made it to number 3 on the Billboard Disco Singles chart at a time when Disco was big, and the market was very competitive. The market was flooded with records aimed strictly for the disco market.
Everything you post applies to Ross. She was booed off the stage in front of a half million people in Jamaica. The reason why they were booed at Madison Garden is because they it was an oldies show with a biker crowd, and they made the mistake of singing some of the newer dance material. Bikers hate disco.
Hmmm. 1n 1987, Ross promoted her new album with a TV special, Red Hot Rhythm and Blues. The result - it sold 135,000 copies and 170,000 worldwide. In fact, beginning in 1987, Ross has never gone beyond the 100,000 range with her albums. Did you know SWV ( Sisters With Voices) has sold more records in the 90s in the US than Ross did in her entire career? 15 million vs 25 million? Imagine that, a 90s hood girl group sold more album than Miss Ross in her entire solo career. Ross has not sold 25 million records in the US but SWV has. Clive Davis is begging to sign her - yeah right.
Your book is not coming out and no publisher has given you a big advance.

Promoting her new album with a TV Special Red Hot Rhythm and Blues, the public responded with their hearts and pocketbooks - the album had worldwide sales of 170,000. The same year Whitney Houston had worldwide sales of 20,000,000.

You would have to know that the Supremes were booed by part of the crowd at MSG because they sang too many of their new songs and not enough of their old songs. That half of the audience cheered them. You cannot be this dumb, but then again you may be. There is no possible way you are going to make me believe you are writing a book and you claimed to have interviewed all of these people and you still don't know shit! The public DID accept Mary, Scherrie and Susaye how else do you think they got a Top 40 Hit? You are definitely making shit up that you've heard from that handful of Diana Ross Zombies who are all nutcases to begin with! They don't shit and you believed them!

This came after "Dreamgirl, My Life As A Supreme" when the public completely turned on her when someone she knew confirmed all of the things the public had been hearing about Diana Ross in little bits and pieces.

Really it was before 1985. Diana Ross' career has been so spotty. After her brief successful run in 1980-81, she had to really scramble for a hit record until it got so bad that by 1984 she was praying that Lionel Richie's song "Missing You" would at least make the Top 10. Sometimes people forget that all through the 70s Diana Ross had more misses than hits. Motown would get a hit on her through a lot of heavy promotion, then it would be another 4-5 records before she got another. Her solo career ran basically between 1970-80. She never achieved another number one solo hit after 1980. In the 70s it was all hit and miss. How "Touch Me in the Morning" made it to number one is a mystery. LOL!!!! To me and many others, Diana Ross was never the same without the Supremes.
Michael Masser said he had to piece "Touch me in the morning" together literally line by line from many takes. That is how Motown had to record her back in the sixties when she was in the Supremes. There were eyewitnesses that detailed how difficult it was to record her . They had to spoon feed the lyrics to her word for word, line for line. She had no natural ability. In many cases, Berry Gordy would have to tell her when to start singing once the music had started!

You are definitely making shit up that you've heard from that handful of Diana Ross Zombies who are all nutcases to begin with! They don't shit and you believed them! Motown didn't just stop promoting them. berry offered to manage the group twice and Mary turned him down twice. in her book she wrote something to the effect, I Wont Loose Control again" then he washed his hands of the group. so to her it was about her being in control apparently. she ran the group into the ground. poor management. now on the other hand, Motown closed down the Detroit location. as a result, many artists,.. producers left behind. see Standing In The Shadows Of Motown . great documentary! and facts. the last few years they were booed off stage at Madison Square Garden. a show scherrie and susaye didn't want to do but Mary did and insisted on. the medleys of hits so fast we thought we were at the Kentucky Derby which was a shame since the ladies talented could rock versions of Someday Well Be Together. the over top broadway non sense just were not the supremes. it was slick vegas shumaltz. the show should have been wrapped around the ladies talents. the last album had some great vocals....You Are The Heart Of Me... Sweet Dream Machine.etc there were good moments and and some bad. we are were hoping the ladies would come back. we wanted them to. I'm Gonna Let My Heart.....was a tremendous return to form. I don't think it fair to blame Motown exactly even though that si what happened. for me its 50 percent Motown and 50 percent Mary Wilson.[/QUOTE Some good points there. Mary seemed to think she was more important than she really was. Had she been as valuable as she seemed to think she was Berry would have promoted her to lead singer when Diana left, but we all knew she was not good enough to take on that responsibility at that time. As sales began to slide Berry probably thought she and the group were more trouble than they were worth. I think your 50/50 assessment is spot on.
